Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a successful, highly sensitive MS lesion diagnostic technique. It is used to monitor the activity and progression of this disease. Monitoring the progression of multiple sclerosis (MS) is crucial for timely intervention and treatment adjustments, as it can help improve patients’ quality of life and contribute to ongoing research efforts to better understand the disease. This paper uses two techniques to monitor MS lesions progression: the Decimal Descriptor Pattern (DDP) and the Local Binary Pattern (LBP). These operators are used to extract the most important features and to characterize the properties of the structures in the brain. 3D MRI brain are described using a collection of orthogonal planes. We have developed an extension to the DDP descriptor to improve the performance in MS evolution. Our results are proof that our approach is effective and fast. © 2023 IEEE. |
